"The UK Sponsored Search Marketplace" event
Manchester Digital's Online Marketing Working Group invites you to a
presentation on 30th March 2006, by Peter Cobley of Overture (one of the biggest players in this market) titled "The UK Sponsored Search Marketplace". By attending you can expect to gain a significant amount of market information as Overture will be in the process of rebranding as Yahoo Search Marketing, we are also hopeful that they may bring some new toys to play with.
The Online Marketing Working Group aims to run a series of events on best practice and innovation in online marketing, which are by no means lectures, but are intended to be thoroughly participatory with the best minds in online marketing sharing their immense knowledge and hopefully getting into some serious debate.
Why? We believe that the North West has some of the best marketing talent in the UK. We want it to improve it and gain worldwide recognition for it. If you're not a member, you'll still be welcome but we urge you to consider becoming part of the digital community and get all the advantages that brings.
This event will start at 6pm at the Manchester Digital Development Agency's
premises in Central Manchester.
For those who have not yet booked their place you can do so by e-mailing
j.keys@manchesterdda.com.

5A3150 DMERM & 5A3160 eBusiness Assignments
Students on these two units should now return their first two assessments (both the group and individual) to me. These assignments are used by the external examiners to see whether marks I awarded are fair across the unit. You can return your assignment by leaving in the correct deposit box outside my office 307e. If you do not leave your assignment, it will not have an opportunity to be considered by an external examiner.
In addition, students on the 5A3150 DMERM unit who do not return their first two assignments cannot be considered for the Pazang DMERM prize.
Please tell your friends!

5A3150 DMERM Problems with SEO
An interesting article on how search engines and the notion of original content are affecting the quality of written content on the Internet. Quick quote:"If there is a topic in the news, people will be searching on it. If you can get those searchers to land on a seemingly authoritative page you've set up, you can make money from their arrival. Via ads, for instance. Then, to get your site ranked high in search engines, it's best to have "original content" about whatever the subject of your site happens to be. The content needs to include all the keywords that people might search for. But it can't be just an outright copy of what's on some other site; you get penalized for that by search engines."

5A3160 eBusiness Lecture 7th March
As we finished our session on eBusiness & Society early and we have been operating a week ahead of schedule, we will not run a lecture on Tuesday 7th March. Please use the tutorials as planned, and make use of the forum on www.cityofdeadsouls.com. The next lecture on 14th March will be a surgery for your assignments running in conjunction with your assignment workshop in the tutorial.
